Next week, Alice Wang and I will be presenting our research and consulting findings on the intersect social media and social networking has with identity and security for Burton Group clients. This topic has been a major source of client inquires over the past few months as organizations are dealing with employee use of social media tools like Twitter as well as internal tools associated with "Enterprise 2.0". Use of social networking to improve information sharing and community-building will transform how organizations think about identity and its relation to collaboration and social media strategies. Social network sites, micro-blogging, activity streams, blogs, and wikis enable employees to construct their own identities via profiles and social graphs. As employee participate and contribute in these social networking environments, internally or externally, they also establish social roles and community reputations.
