If you’re lucky, there is some aspect of your professional life that your passionate about – something that sparks your intellectual curiosity, something that compels you to advocate for something or someone – something that actually inspires you.
While I’ve truly enjoyed my last two years working at Cisco, I could never quite shake the sense that my passion, as described here, was best found by being in an inter-disciplinary role that combined different types of research (related to media, technology, sociology, etc.) with the ability to objectively apply that insight to help customers reach their goals, and share those learnings with the broader community at-large interested in those issues.
To that end, on November 5th, I’m happy and excited to announce that I’ll be returning to Gartner, joining Sue Landry’s team, focusing on topics related to social software and collaboration.
The journey continues…
You we're born to do this (IMO). I couldn't possibly be more excited. Huge congrats to you and to Gartner.

Hi Mike! This is, indeed, some excellent piece of news! I guess that some times we need to get out of our comfort zones to keep challenging how we keep growing and moving along with our learning curves to then land back to where we know we are shining the best. Glad you are coming back home. I, too, feel the best is yet out to come! Congrats to you and Gartner and here's to another successful venture! :-D

Congratulations, Mike. I know you will enjoy it. Does this mean the blog moves over to Gartner, or will it stay here?
p.s. Typepad wouldn't let me leave a not-signed-in comment.

Congratulations Mike - love hearing about people following their passion. I'm also doing that - working with great people and technology in the social software, collaboration and digital marketing space in Sydney.
